At Everytel, we collect information about visitors to improve your user experience. The information may, for example, be used to improve the website, respond to your messages, and for marketing purposes.

In this privacy policy, you can read about which personal data we collect, how we collect the data, the lawful basis for processing it, and how we manage and protect your information.

Data controller

The party responsible for storing and managing personal data on Everytel is Comparico AB, with company registration number 556851-2312. This company operates the website and is responsible for ensuring compliance with current laws and regulations regarding personal data, including the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

What is considered personal data?

According to New Zealand’s Privacy Act, personal data is any information that can identify a person, either directly or indirectly. Examples include name, address, email address, IP address, gender or location information.

What personal data do we collect?

This section explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how long we store it.

Information you provide to us yourself

In the following situations, you will need to provide your personal details yourself.

When you use our contact form

To send us a message via our contact form, you need to provide your email address and your name. We need this information in order to respond to your message. This data is processed in our email system (Google Workspace) and will be permanently deleted as soon as we have handled your case.

When you use our feedback feature

The purpose of this feature is solely to collect anonymous feedback to help us improve our website.

You are not required to provide any personal information, and we explicitly instruct users not to submit personal data in the feedback form, as clearly stated in the feature’s disclaimer.

If you choose to include personal data in your message (such as your name, email, or phone number) against our instructions, this data will be stored temporarily in our system.

Our handling of such accidentally submitted data is strictly limited:

  • We will not use this personal data for any purpose.
  • We will not use it to contact you.
  • The data will be permanently deleted as soon as our team has reviewed and processed the general feedback provided.

When you create an account to leave reviews

If you want to leave a review about a provider, you need to create an account with us. We require this step to help ensure that all reviews are genuine and to prevent spam or inauthentic submissions.

The information we store in connection with this is first and last name, email address and password. We also save all the reviews you have written. You can view all this information in your profile when you are logged in.

Your control and storage period

  • We provide you with direct control over your data. When logged in, you can access and amend your personal details at any time via your account profile. You can also use the tool in your profile settings to permanently delete your entire account.
  • This information is stored for as long as you have an active account with us. To comply with data protection principles, we have a policy for inactive accounts. If an account has no login activity for 24 consecutive months, it will be flagged as inactive. We will then contact you via email, and if the account is not reactivated within 30 days, it will be permanently deleted.

Information we collect based on your consent

If you provide your consent via our cookie banner, we use cookies and analytics tools (such as Google Analytics) to collect data about visitor behaviour. We do this to understand how visitors use our website and to improve our services and user experience.

This data, which is treated as personal data, can include:

  • Location information: We see your approximate location (e.g., country or city) based on your IP address. (Your IP address is automatically anonymised in Google Analytics, which means your full IP address is never stored on their servers).
  • User behaviour: This helps us understand how you interact with our site, such as which pages you visit and how long you stay on them.
  • Technical information: This includes the type of device (mobile, computer, etc.), browser, and operating system you are using.

Storage period

The user-level data collected by Google Analytics is set to be automatically deleted from their servers after 14 months. This retention period resets on new activity. This does not affect the aggregated, anonymous statistics we use to see overall trends.

Managing your consent

We will only collect this data if you actively accept analytics cookies in our cookie banner. You can view, change, or withdraw your consent at any time via our Cookie Policy, which also provides a full list of the cookies we use.

Our business model and affiliate links

To keep our comparison service completely free for you to use, we are financed through affiliate marketing.

This means that when you use our service to compare providers and click on a link to an operator’s website (e.g., to sign up for a mobile plan), we may receive a commission.

How this works (Data processing)

For this to work technically, tracking technology (such as cookies or tracking links) is used to identify that the referral came from our website. This process involves the collection and sharing of data, such as a cookie ID or your IP address, with our partners (the operators) and our affiliate networks.

This tracking will only occur if you have given your explicit consent for “Advertisement” cookies via our cookie banner.

You can find a complete list of the specific cookies we use, as well as manage your consent, at any time in our Cookie Policy.

Transfers of data outside New Zealand

To provide our services, we use certain third-party suppliers who are based outside New Zealand. This means your data may be transferred to, and processed in, a country whose data protection laws may not be considered as strict as those in New Zealand.

Google Workspace (Email and internal documents)

We use Google Workspace (provided by Google LLC) for our internal operations, including our company email system. When you contact us via email or our contact form, your personal data (such as your name, email address, and the content of your message) is processed by Google and may be transferred to and stored on servers in the United States (US).

Legal Safeguard: We take reasonable steps to ensure that any overseas recipient of your personal information handles it in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act. We do this by entering into Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) with our suppliers (like Google) which contractually oblige them to protect your data to a high standard. While we rely on mechanisms like Google’s certification under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (DPF) as evidence of their strong security practices, our legal basis for the transfer is our commitment to taking reasonable steps as required by New Zealand law.

Analytics and advertising partners (Based on consent)

Other services we use, such as Google Analytics and various affiliate networks, may also be based in the US or other third countries.

Any transfer of data for these purposes will only occur if you have given your explicit consent for analytics or marketing cookies via our cookie banner. These transfers are also managed by ensuring our partners (like affiliate networks) are contractually bound to protect your data and handle it in accordance with strict privacy standards.

Your data protection rights

You have the right to access and correct any personal data that we store. This means that you have the right to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you and to receive information about how we use it. You also have the right to ask us to correct any information we hold about you that you believe is wrong. To exercise any of these rights, the easiest way to contact us is through our contact form.

If you believe that we have processed your personal data incorrectly, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
